Are Nursing Home Residents being Drugged into Submission ?

According to the Center for Medicare Advocacy in Washington, medications are being used improperly in some skilled nursing homes to control a patients’ behavior.  Learn more in this article from Wicked Local and link to the report from the Center for Medicare Advocacy. 

A recent report concluded that off-label drug use is common and hurts nursing home residents. The report, or Alert, lists various actions available to advocates to address the inappropriate medication of residents with antipsychotic drugs.

An ongoing criminal investigation in California began in January 2007, when a nursing home ombudsman reported to the California Department of Public Health that a resident at a Kern Valley skilled nursing facility had been held down and forcibly injected with a form of psychotropic medication from the group of drugs known as atypical antipsychotic drugs.
