Health Care Bill’s Passage was a “Sad Day for Seniors”

This article from Current-Argus of New Mexico discusses how the new health care bill will effect seniors in skilled nursing home facilities and Medicare recipients.

Jody Knox, Lakeview Christian Home executive director, said if the companion package passes, the direct negative impact on skilled nursing facilities will be about $25 billion.

To pay for the changes, the legislation includes more than $400 billion in higher taxes over a decade and cuts more than $500 billion from planned payments to nursing homes, hospitals, hospices and other providers that treat Medicare patients.

“It’s really sad for our seniors to have to experience these cuts. They have paid taxes all their life and don’t deserve the cuts to the Medicare program,” Knox said.
