Nursing Home Residents get to enjoy Shopping Experience at Clothes Closet
The Clothes Closet Program visits at least one nursing home a month, it is set up like a store and allows residents to choose from a variety of clothing for free. Read more about this wonderful outreach organization in an article from The Augusta Chronicle.
On March 24, a Clothes Closet gave residents the opportunity to get something new, said Helen McVicker, the executive director of When Help Can’t Wait, a nonprofit organization that provides comfort items for area nursing home residents.
“When we’re in the homes, we notice that they are in need of new clothing,” she said. “They have clothing with worn-out elbows, stretched out, and some of them are wearing the same clothing every time we go.
”That’s why we created the Clothes Closet. On their income, they wouldn’t be able to get new clothes otherwise, unless a family member or friend brought them something.”
