The ties of Friendship still Unbroken

Here is an inspiring and heartwarming story of a friendship that has grown for 81 years.  Read this article from The Los Angeles Daily News.

Every morning, 89-year-old Sammy Weiner rises from his bed in the long-term care facility at the Sepulveda VA, and slowly shuffles over to the two framed pictures on his bureau.

He kisses a baby picture of his late son, Michael, who died of cancer at age 30, then kisses a picture of his “Queen for a Day” for 61 years - his late wife, Teri.

Then Sammy sits in his wheelchair, opens the Daily News and starts doing The New York Times crossword puzzle, waiting for Ross Oakley to arrive.

Sammy and Ross have been best buddies for 81 years, most of their lives. They met in third grade at the old Sawtelle Boulevard grammar school in West Los Angeles and hit it off.
