Assisted-Living Facility Will Be Like ‘Family Situation’
In Eustis, Florida, Pendry Estate will be an assisted-living facility where people will be cared for by and living with the Forster family. The Forster’s want to create a homey environment for seniors and disabled by providing a family situation including a pet, home cooked meals and regular trips to malls and restaurants.
From the Orlando Sentinel article by Rosalind Jennings:
“I think people need some stimulation,” Mel Forster said. “They don’t want to go into a place to vegetate.”
The Forsters’ British nursing home was in Saint Leonards-on-Sea, south of London. Upon moving to the United States, they didn’t want to abandon their former occupation. They bought the estate last year and just finished extensive renovations.
They still have last-minute details to handle, including getting a horse for residents to enjoy.
“There’s been so many things to do, I haven’t had time to find a horse for the stable,” David Forster said.
A grand opening takes place Thursday.
“Our objective was to make it as homey as possible,” he said.
