AHCA/NCAL 2008: Meet COWL

At AHCA/NCAL in Nashville, there’s no shortage of high-end booths showcasing major powerhouses in long-term care.  Sometimes, though, the truly worthy causes in long-term care can be found between the castles. Such is the case with the “Coalition of Women in Long Term Care” (COWL).

COWL, now for its fifth consecutive year, awards scholarships to caregivers seeking to develop their expertise in long-term care.  According to Judy White, COWL’s president, COWL is dedicated to the issues of leadership, women, and aging.  According to COWL, long-term care is very much an industry which thrives largely on the participation and efforts of women.  According to their website, women represent 87% of the recipients in long-term care and 97% of caregivers.

COWL’s membership dues make the annual scholarships possible, along with sponsorship by McKesson.  This year they awarded $3,500 in scholarships to worthy applicants.  We encourage you to learn more about COWL by visiting their website at http://www.cowl.org.
