Crypton: The Super Upholstery
When it comes to furniture in long-term care, the quality of upholstery can make a big difference in the longevity and attractiveness of a facility. Today we’d like to introduce you to one of the leading manufacturers of long-term care upholstery.
Upholstery for use in Long Term Care facilities has been the hallmark of our Industry for years. The first and last impression that the families have of a facility is the beauty that is imparted by the furnishings of the front area and typically that is determined by the allure of the upholstery and the quality of the furnishings.
The upholstery used in Long Term Care facilities must have a moisture barrier to keep any possible moisture leakage from permeating the foam or batting under the upholstery fabric. In the old days, the moisture barrier was on top of the material, as in vinyls. The concern was that this type of moisture barrier is uncomfortable to the touch, tends to give one a “sticky sensation: and is generally thought to be associated with an inexpensive “hand” or feel. For residential use, a spray on moisture barrier commercially available is generally acceptable, one of the more common trade names for this type of product is “Scotchguard”. The concern with this type of treatment is that it wears off and because it is invisible, one does not know that it has worn off until a piece of seating has a stain or wet spot which would indicate that the offensive material has soaked through to the underlayment.
Crypton is a Super process that is patented and a specially engineered fabric system that offers stain, moisture, mold, mildew, bacteria, and odor-resistant protection coupled with an integrated moisture barrier that ensures that nothing will ever penetrate the fabric…ever. From a limitless array of fabrics in a limitless array of color and style options, Crypton Super Fabric is just that…Super!
The company and the concept began like many revolutionary products do - as a simple idea. Husband and wife duo and Crypton founders Craig and Randy Rubin set out to create a fabric that was stain, moisture and bacteria resistant, yet soft and breathable. There was nothing in the marketplace that suited those needs, just sticky vinyls and top treated fabrics which were hot, rough and unpleasant to live with.
In 1993, together, in the basement of their Michigan home, along with advice and assistance from researchers, chemists, and textile engineers, the Rubins developed Crypton Super Fabric, protected it by multiple global patents and set out to introduce it to the world.
With its patented process, Crypton is leading the performance textile industry. The key to this super fabric is its weaving process coupled with its proven barrier; nothing gets through Crypton to the cushion….nothing.
With over 60 million yards successfully installed in Long Term Care facilities, hotels, restaurants and cruise ships, Crypton has become known for its performance features, soft looks and amazing versatility.
Crypton is an easy to clean fabric that stays fresh, looking better than any other textile and is available in options like Suede, Smart Suede, Twill Wovens, Prints and now even Velvet.
